Governments are made up of people, and people are not perfect. It is also argued that government tends to attract people that are control freaks that get pleasure from power and like to have other people subordinate to them. Would you like someone like that to have your private info and a way to manipulate you? Another thing you can do is use their own argument against them. If they are not doing anything wrong with your information, then why all the secrecy? Many governments don't even want to expose their actions to the scrutiny and overview of a judge (not that there are many on the government payroll that should be trusted).
