No, it's not They charge quite a big transaction fee, and as far as I know, you're not able to change it...

Yes Coinbase seem to have change it to where they charge a fee now for every transaction no matter where it going. Gugakip you are correct on not being able to change it. They say it set by the Bitcoin network and they get none of the fees. They just have to pay them so the coins will get mined .

Indeed, but if I don't care about waiting for a transaction, I'd like to be able to lower the fee to less satoshi/byte... but that's not possible for now.

Actually even after coinbase launched network fees this spring, they promised coinbase to coinbase will still be free. I tried it yesterday and it's not. It could be that instead of btc addrerss, we have to enter email address. Waiting for their reply. And yes, their fees is increasing day by day.

Bigbadmoose, you could check Poloniex, it's one of the most used exchange platform out there which also serves/uses huge amount of altcoins. There you can make deposits, withdrawals, hold altcoins in their internal wallets, exchange them for other altcoins or even lend them for an interest. Interestingly, it's based in USA and according to their Terms, the only restricition for USA residents is this one: You also represent and warrant that you are not a resident of the State of New York.Still, you should check it by yourself if you are eligable to join it.

I just found that although coinbase to coinbase is not free when you send the BTC to Bitcoin address, but it is when you send it to coinbase email address. I think merchants should start adopting coinbase or xapo to reduce the BTC transaction fees, which is just rising. It will be especially helpful in micro transactions and also instant and will reduce the load on Bitcoin blockchain......

I would sell unless you plan to hold it for years, but even then I would spread my funds and not just hold 1 alt.
